  • Can one buy freehold (fee simple) land in the Fiji Islands?

      Yes, there is approximately 8.5% freehold land in Fiji. This can be purchased by foreigners and local Fijians alike. Freehold title means you own the land in perpetuity.

  • What are the land types in Fiji available for purchase by foreigners?
      There are several land types - freehold (about 8.5%), crown leasehold (about 8.5%) and the remainder is native leasehold.  Only freehold land gives you complete title. The other land types are sold under a lease arrangement, e.g. 99 years.

  • Who administers native leasehold land?
      Native leasehold is administered by the Native Lands Trust Board (NLTB), and the main office is located in the capital of Suva. The NLTB is a statutory body and acts as an official intermediary between the native land owners and the purchaser.
